Sarah Beatrice Davis
A practicing Family Law attorney since 1984, Sarah began mediating marital and non-marital partnership dissolutions in 1988 and has used the collaborative model since its inception. In her private practice, she has mediated and arbitrated innumerable disputes, litigated marital and non-marital partnership dissolutions, and actively practiced all forms of alternative dispute resolution. Unlike many collaborative law practitioners, she remains active in not only collaborative practice, but also mediation and litigation.
Respected for her professional integrity and insight, Sarah has served as Judge Pro Tem in San Francisco and Alameda Counties. She trains mediators and attorneys for California Lawyers for the Arts and the Volunteer Legal Services Program of The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF). Every year since 1985, BASF has recognized Sarah as an outstanding volunteer in Family Law and, in 2000, awarded her the James P. Preovolos Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Services in Family Law. California Lawyer Magazine named Sarah one of the top ten "Heart and Soul" Practitioners of 1998, and San Francisco Attorney Magazine featured her in "Changing Lives, Accessing Justice" in 2002. As a practitioner, Sarah knows how to solve problems creatively and respectfully. She can help you determine whether collaborative negotiation, mediation or litigation is the right model for you. She understands how the collaborative model can work for you by minimizing the expense and destructiveness of conflict, ultimately allowing you to resolve your dispute in a more respectful, relaxed and conscious manner than litigation will inspire. Collaborative practice does not eliminate inevitable conflict, but instead helps you work with it to become more aware of the issues that are important to you, to avoid inflicting and suffering unnecessary pain, and to search for the win-win solution. The safe environment created by the model allows you to transform fear into positive action, unleashing energy to create solutions that are tailored to your individual needs and the needs of your family. While ending up in court is always a possibility when you are trying to resolve a legal dispute, Sarah believes that in most situations collaboration will conserve family emotional and financial resources, leading to better solutions and a healthier, happier post divorce life for every family member.
