Upon a person's death there are a number of crucial tasks to complete before their property can be distributed to loved ones. Assets and property must be collected, accounted for, and appraised; debts, taxes, and expenses must be paid; then the remaining assets must be distributed to beneficiaries. Sometimes trusts must be established to hold property intended for very young or disabled beneficiaries.
Whether a person died without an estate plan in place, with a simple will, or with a fully-integrated estate plan including a living trust, we can assist with all tasks involved in administering the estate.
* Long-Term Care and Disability Planning
An integrated estate plan must address possible incapacity prior to death. Our services include protecting one's assets from depletion due to medical and nursing-home costs, Medi-Cal eligibility, and Supplemental Security Income.
For clients already in need of long-term care benefits, we reconfigure estates to enable them to become eligible for programs such as Medi-Cal as soon and as cost-effectively as possible. For clients not yet in need of long-term care benefits, we draft provisions giving their loved ones the authority to protect their assets from depletion due to overwhelming medical and nursing home costs.
